Skills Ontario is open to elementary, secondary and post-secondary students, with students competing to showcase their skills in a variety of Skilled Trades professions. This particular competition is for Durham District School Board Elementary school students and is the second year we have hosted at the Tribute Communities Centre.
The qualifying teams for the Regional Elementary Skills Ontario competition represent over 70 schools in the Durham board, with 125-plus school board educators acting as mentors and judges.
The Regional Skills contest on April 4th will feature 500 students from the Durham District School Board alone from grades 4-8 who qualified from more than 15,000 students who participated in their own classrooms during the initial qualification round. More than 250 teachers submitted final entries and the 130 qualifying teams were selected by judges to represent their schools at the contest.
The Skills Ontario Competition offers a unique opportunity for students to demonstrate they are the best of the best in their field. Over the course of the day, they get a chance to turn the heads of their educators, family, friends and prospective employers, with winners awarded gold, silver and bronze medals. The opportunity to compete at the Skills Ontario Provincial Finals is also available to gold medal winners. The provincial finals will be held at the Toronto Congress Centre May 6-8 2024.
The students will compete in thirteen distinct categories: 3D Printing, Agriculture/Landscaping, Construction, Green Energy, Micro:Bit Coding (Jr & Int), Photography, Tech Design (Jr & Int), Animation (Jr & Int) and VEX Robotics (Jr & Intermediate).
